What are the observations of civil society organizations (CSOs), trade unions and social movements regarding the effects of the pandemic on good governance and the rule of law in the region? Dissolution of parliament, prolonged states of emergency, postponed elections, repressed freedoms of expression and association, gagged whistleblowers, new forms of corruption, etc.
With the outbreak and spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the countries in the southern neighborhood are facing new forms of challenges on the path to democratizing their political systems.
In this context, Majalat is organizing a webinar on May 28 with representatives of CSOs to take stock of the evolution of the situation and formulate clear recommendations for the various actors of the European Union who are active in these specific regional areas and contexts. Participants will indeed discuss how to adapt the recommendations made last year (see the 2019 Report with the recommendations) taking into account the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (see agenda and concept note below)
To encourage discussion and broaden the debate, you can directly post your contribution on the Majalat platform (PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint files).
You can also post your contributions concerning other priority themes of Majalat (economic development and social dialogue, migration and mobility, Social and climate justice, Security and anti-violence, Youth) in particular with regard to the perceived impact from the COVID-19 crisis.
