The issue of gender equality in the labor market is an important issue. For the MENA region, however, the issue is all the more important due to the traditional role of women in the economy and cultural beliefs ( including religious) that govern gender relations in these countries.
Focusing on Egypt and Jordan, the study produces policy recommendations that go in two directions:
On the one hand, the study suggests addressing the broad cultural and societal barriers to the employment of women that can provide unequal access (both professionally and in terms of pay). On the other hand, develop policies favorable to increasing the participation of women in the labor market, such as the extension of childcare, in particular maternity leave and wages.
