Good governance and rule of law

The National Committee for the Liberation of Detainees (CNLD) has announced that the Hirak activist Chems Eddine Laalami has been sentenced to two years in prison by a court in Bordj Bou Arréridj, in the north-east of the country.

After being arrested at the end of June by the Algerian coast guard while trying to leave for Spain, Chems Eddine Laalami, known as Brahim, was placed under a detention order on 4 July.

The CNLD recalled that Brahim was prosecuted in two cases, for “hate speech, insulting a constituted body, disseminating false information” and “inciting an unarmed group.”
