Security and countering violence

The third chamber of the specialised criminal division of the Oran court has decided to transfer the Oran case to the anti-terrorist and cross-border crime division of the Sidi Mhamed court.

The case includes the radio journalist Said Boudour, the correspondent of the daily Liberté in Oran Djamila Loukil, the head of the Oran office of the Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights (LADDH) Keddour Chouicha, and another Hirak activists. The case is based on charges of “belonging to terrorist groups and plotting against the authority of the state.” The defendants face up to 20 years in prison.

It is worth noting that on 17 June, seven reporters of the UN Commission on Human Rights alerted the Algerian government about the use of terrorism charges to harass journalists and human rights activists.
