Migration and mobility

For Solidar, the renaming of the European Commissioner's portfolio, which now combines migration and "protection of the European way of life", amounts to unacceptably linking migration and security, as if they were two sides of the same coin. Solidar considers that it is this conceptual association that led to the so-called "criminalization of solidarity" to the detriment of civil society organizations defending the rights of migrants and asylum seekers.

Solidar called on new European Commissioner Margaritis Schinas, (former European Commission spokesperson and MEP for the Greek Conservative Party), before his hearing before the European Parliament, to clarify his positions on his intentions to combine the themes of security and migration. Solidar called on him to fully respect Article 2 of the European Treaty, which defines fundamental European values. Solidar also expects clarification on how the new European Commissioner intends for the EU to solve the systemic impasse in its management of migration flows and ensure a functional reception of migrants and sustainable integration policies. For Solidar, it is important that "the next agenda on migration not only focuses on reception policies, emergency management and border control, but also, and more than ever, on the policies of long-term integration ".

For Solidar, the short-term security vision is the biggest threat to diversity at the heart of the European project. If there is only one "European way of life" that the EU would have the mission to protect, it would be "the one who respects human dignity, human rights, freedom, democracy, equality and the State of law ".
