The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted €250,000 in emergency aid to Tunisia to support its strategy to combat COVID-19.

Managed by UNICEF/WHO and the International Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the EIB in Tunisia, the funds will be used to purchase more than 200 oxygen concentrators and to recruit medical teams to assist people living in rural areas who are unable to travel to hospitals to receive the necessary treatment for six months.

EIB Vice-President Ricardo Mourinho Felix said “in view of the exceptional health situation, it is important to act quickly and meet the most urgent needs for equipment and care for people living in isolated rural areas. This new action carried out in partnership with UNICEF/WHO and the International Red Cross marks the EIB’s strong commitment to Tunisia, with which the EIB has developed a strategic partnership and a bond of trust over many years.”
