The Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior in charge of Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, has announced granting more than 12,000 foreign workers on the front line the citizenship.

In a statement issued last Thursday, the minister explained that health professionals, security or maintenance workers, nurses, cashiers, or garbage collectors have been rewarded for their efforts in times of crisis and have obtained French nationality after two years of residence in France, instead of the five years.

In May and October 2020, thousands of undocumented migrants demonstrated to demand the regularisation of their status and the recognition of their efforts in the fight against the pandemic. On 14 September last year, the government created an exceptional mechanism for the acquisition of French nationality by foreign nationals mobilised during the health crisis, which enabled more than 12,000 workers to obtain French nationality.
