The European Union (EU) has announced the immediate allocation of 100.000 Euros of aid to the benefit of Libyan families with low means and who were forced to leave their homes due to the armed conflict in Libya.
This European financial support will help the Libyan Red Cross to provide urgent aid to the 2500 most vulnerable people who have been temporarily accommodated in schools in the cities of Ijdabia, Tobruk, Al-Shehat, Al-Bayda, Bani Walid and Benghazi.
Local volunteers provided a whole range of assistance, such as food, blankets and cleaning supplies, after conducting a census of the refugees and determining their daily needs.
Furthermore, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Libya, which is known to be one of the most vulnerable countries that are prone to emerging pandemics, aid distributions to the mentioned families were accompanied by strict preventive measures in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus among them.
It is noteworthy that the mentioned European aid is part of the EU’s total contribution to the International Confederation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Emergency Relief Fund.
