The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that six sub-Saharan migrants were killed by guards at a detention centre in Tripoli.
IOM official Federico Soda said the incident occurred on Friday 8 October at the Al-Mabani centre where some 3,000 migrants are being held. Denouncing the “terrible” living conditions in the centre, he said several migrants “escaped during the chaos.”
Local media broadcast several videos showing the escape of migrants, but did not report on the deadly shootings in the same centre.
The IOM noted that the Al-Mabani centre has a capacity of one thousand people and that several of the migrants who are detained there “have valid papers and are subject to arbitrary detention.”
