The Network of Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) has won the North-South Prize of the Council of Europe.

MedECC was awarded for its scientific assessment report on the impact of climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean, which was produced over a period of six years by nearly 200 scientists from the network. The report assessed more than 3,800 articles and reports in the scientific literature on the current risks to the Mediterranean basin, presenting their findings in a comprehensive report.

The North-South Prize Jury recognised MedECC’s work as “leading example of the potential of collaboration between states and societies to face the challenges of climate change and environmental sustainability, as well as a response to the need for scientific and expert cooperation to produce knowledge-based analysis as a sound basis for policy.”
