Through the European Union’s (EU) programme of direct financial support to the Palestinian Authority (PEGASE or the European Union’s Mechanism created to support the Palestinian people), Finland has contributed with €2 million to the Palestinian Authority for the payment of medical consultations in East Jerusalem hospitals.

The grant will enable the Palestinian Authority to meet its obligations towards the hospitals in East Jerusalem in light of the budgetary crisis and the socio-economic impact of the pandemic. This will enable East Jerusalem hospitals to maintain essential medical services for Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and Gaza.

The EU and its Member States have been supporting the Palestinian Authority since 2012 with regular contributions to pay for care in East Jerusalem hospitals. By now, the total amount of aid allocated amounts to more than €140 million.
