Security and countering violence

After the initiation of the interim government, the international conference for the stability of Libya was held in Tripoli on Thursday 21 October with the participation of around thirty ministerial delegations as well as the UN, the European Union (EU) and the African Union to support the transition process in Libya.

At the end of the meeting, the Libyan government committed itself to respecting the UN resolutions and to “create an environment for transparent and inclusive national elections on 24 December,” said Libyan Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush. The government, also, mentioned its “rejection of foreign intervention” in Libyan affairs and “attempts to sow chaos in Libya.”

The head of the interim government Abdelhamid Dbeibah announced that the elections would take place “on the scheduled date,” 24 December, and called for “respect for the results.”
