Good governance and rule of law

Adopted by 534 votes “for” and 45 “against” with 106 abstentions, a new European Parliament resolution calls on Tunisian President Saïd to put an end to the concentration of power in his hands, to facilitate the return to normal parliamentary life and to create a Constitutional Court.

Stressing the need to include civil society in an inclusive national dialogue, the European Parliament called for the continuation of EU programmes that directly support Tunisian citizens.

MEPs also warned about the socio-economic crisis Tunisia is going through and called for reforms and structural policies to remedy it.

For his part, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy since Josep Borrell said that the ultimate goal is to “restore constitutional life in Tunisia in the coming weeks.”
