The presenter of the channel Zitouna TV Amer Ayad was sentenced to four months in prison for “offense” against the head of state according to a statement made by his lawyer, Samir Ben Amor, to AFP.
Prosecuted since October 2021 by the military court of Tunis after the broadcast of a program in which he had attacked the president Kaies Saied, the journalist remains free pending a decision on the appeal he filed with the Court of Appeal. Last October, Amer Ayad was arrested for two months before he was released.
Several national and international NGOs have denounced the arrests of journalists and opponents in Tunisia. Repressions that have intensified since the coup de force on July 25 of President Saied who has arrogated to himself full powers, according to the same NGOs.
