An agreement on the regularization of the situation of construction workers was signed last night, Tuesday, October 20, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Service, in the presence of the Head of Government, Hichem Mechichi, members of his government, and a delegation from the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), led by its secretary-general, Noureddine Taboubi.
In a press release published on Thursday, the Head of Government explained that the signing of this agreement comes “as the culmination of an important dialogue process, marked by consultation and cooperation between the governmental and trade union parties”. He added that the government stands by its “commitment to break with precarious work”.
For his part, the secretary-general of the trade union center welcomed “a step forward on the path of partnership between the government and the trade union organization, consecrating civil peace and breaking with precarious forms of work”.
This agreement will make it possible to regularize the situation of about 31 thousand workers in construction sites, regional and agricultural. It consists of three chapters: the first relates to persons under the age of 45; the second, the category from over 45 to 55; and the third, over 55.
