The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that it has “recently” received a request for assistance from Tunisia. The institution’s spokesman, Gerry Rice, said that the Tunisian government had recently requested IMF assistance and that “technical talks were underway to determine economic priorities.”

Gerry Rice added that “the technical negotiations between the financial institution and the Tunisian authorities aim to examine the possibility of launching a new financing programme for Tunisia.”

Several Tunisian media have reported that the negotiations between the government and the IMF focus on the economic reforms that must be implemented in order for the country to emerge from its current crisis.

Represented by the Governor of the Central Bank, the Ministers of Economy and Planning, and a delegation of the IMF, the Tunisian economic and financial authorities will discuss with the IMF the government’s strategic orientations and the reforms it plans to undertake.
